Tension rises as Julian Alvarez and Guardiola exchange words through media

Julian Alvarez has opened up about his future with Manchester City, expressing mixed feelings despite a successful campaign in 2023/24. “Last season, I was one of the players with the most minutes at City. But in the end, you don’t like being left out of important matches. You want to contribute” Alvarez shared. He emphasized his satisfaction with his performance but hinted at possible changes after the Olympics. “I feel good at City. We will see what happens after the Olympics. Maybe it’s annoying to be out in big games, players always want to help on the pitch! But my season was good, so I’m very happy. I’ll take my time to think about what I want for myself. We’ll see.” Alvarez is currently at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where he provided two assists in Argentina’s Saturday 3-1 victory over Iraq.

City manager Pep Guardiola responded to Alvarez’s comments, acknowledging the player’s desire for more significant involvement. “I read that he’s going to think about it. Ok, think about it, then he will inform us what he wants to do” Guardiola remarked. “Julian played a lot. He wants more? It’s fine. So that’s why… think about it. And when he thinks about it, he will inform us.”

In other news, Guardiola addressed speculation surrounding Kevin de Bruyne’s future at Manchester City. “I didn’t speak to him. But the club informed me that we didn’t get any offer,” he stated. “I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I hope that he stays! It’s up to Kevin but right now I’m told he’s going to stay.”

Later today, Manchester City will face Barcelona in their second pre-season friendly during the US tour. So far, the team has lost both of its exhibition games, falling 3-4 to Celtic and 2-3 to AC Milan respectively.
