Guardiola: I hope Rodri wins Ballon d’Or, Kevin de Bruyne is not leaving

Pep Guardiola shared insights on his plans for the upcoming season when addressing the media before the team’s first pre-season friendly game. Reflecting on his summer break, Guardiola described it as “really good” and expressed his excitement for the new season. When discussing Manchester City’s squad, Guardiola emphasized the stability of the current team but did not rule out potential changes.

“Until the last day, we have chances to change the squad. I don’t rule out the option to have new players, but if anyone leaves… I think 85/90/95% we will have the same squad” Guardiola stated, not ruling out the possibility of last-minute transfers.

One key player whose future has been a topic of speculation is Kevin de Bruyne. Guardiola decisively addressed these rumours, confirming that the Belgian playmaker will not be joining the Saudi Pro League this summer. “No, Kevin is NOT leaving” he affirmed, putting an end to the speculation.

Guardiola also commented on the recent Euro 2024 final, praising Spain’s performance. “I think the best team of the tournament won. I think nobody doubts that Spain was brilliant in all departments, in every single game. It’s not easy to win 7/7” he said.

Moreover, Guardiola expressed his admiration for Rodri, highlighting his consistency and potential for the Ballon d’Or. “I can’t deny how happy I would be if Rodri could get the Ballon d’Or. His consistency is just brutal. Being in the race, being nominated, or winning the Ballon d’Or is fantastic!” Guardiola remarked.
