Referee of Champions League final to officiate Spain – Italy clash

Slovenian referee Slavko Vinčić has been appointed by UEFA to officiate the highly anticipated derby of the second round of Euro 2024 between Spain and Italy. The match is scheduled to take place on Thursday in Gelsenkirchen.

Vinčić is widely regarded as one of the top referees in Europe. His reputation was further solidified when he was selected to officiate the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, a match that ended 2-0 in favour of the Spanish giants.

At Euro 2024, Vinčić has already overseen one match, Switzerland’s 3-1 victory over Hungary. Both Spain and Italy started the tournament on a high note, with “La Furia” defeating Croatia 3-0 and the “Azzurri” coming from behind to prevail 2-1 over Albania.

Assisting Vinčić in the Spain – Italy match will be two his compatriots, Tomaz Klancnik and Andraž Kovacic. The fourth official will be the elite French referee Clément Turpin, and the VAR referees will be the Poles Bartosz Frankowski and Tomasz Kwiatkowski.
