Iker Bravo leaves Real Madrid as club decides against new contract

Iker Bravo, the young forward who joined Real Madrid from Bayer Leverkusen in 2022, will leave the Spanish giants after the club decided not to offer him a new contract. In an interview with Marca, Bravo expressed his understanding and future aspirations following the club’s decision.

“I’m now looking for a project where I can play and feel important” Bravo said. “Maybe with good numbers in two or three years I could return to Real Madrid one day. Now there are Mbappé, Vini, Rodrygo, Jude… no space for academy players.”

Bravo, a former Barcelona youth player who spent 11 years at La Masia, signed for Real Madrid after a stint at Bayer Leverkusen. Despite scoring against his former club Barcelona during a youth Clásico and kissing the Real Madrid badge, Bravo leaves Los Blancos without having played a single minute for the Madrid first team.

Real Madrid had signed Bravo with high hopes in the summer of 2022, but with established stars in the squad like Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, and Jude Bellingham ahead of him in the pecking order, opportunities were scarce for the young talent. This summer Kylian Mbappe and Endrick will also join the club and there will be no chance for Bravo to find a place in the star-studded line-up. As a result, Real Madrid has decided not to trigger Bravo’s €10 million buy-option clause, allowing him to return to Bayer Leverkusen.
