Villarreal are actively working to sign Nicolo Zaniolo as their priority target for this summer. The Yellow Submarine is moving quickly, as several Italian clubs are also interested in bringing Zaniolo back to Serie A. Zaniolo first made a name for himself with Roma between 2018 and early 2023. He was then sold to Galatasaray, where he played until the summer, before signing a loan deal with Aston Villa, where he spent the last campaign. During the 2023/24 season, Zaniolo played 40 matches across all tournaments for Aston Villa, scoring three goals in 1,363 minutes of football.

Zaniolo’s contract with Galatasaray expires this summer, and he will be a free agent on July 1st, meaning interested teams will not have to pay a transfer fee. The Italian winger won the Europa Conference League trophy during his time at Roma and Turkey’s title with Galatasaray in 2023. He has represented Italy’s national team on 19 occasions but did not earn a place in Luciano Spalletti’s provisional squad for Euro 2024.
