The talanted playmaker recorded 32 league games, clocking up 2,383 minutes of football in the German top-flight. This is the highest number troughout the relatively short Wirtz’ career. During the 21/22 campaign, he suffered a cruciate ligament tear in mid-March and recovered for 265 days, missing 43 games. He made his return in December of 2022, slowly gaining match sharpness. In the summer of 2023 Wirtz had a normal pre-season which resulted in his best season on personal and club level, demonstrating his skills on full display during the 23/24 season.
The season for Wirtz and Bayer Leverkusen is not over yet. The Bundesliga champions meet Atalanta in the Europa League final on 22nd of May, and just three days later clash with Stuttgart in DFB Pokal final.
