Premier League: Chelsea in pole position in the race for 6th place before final day

Chelsea achieved an important 1:2 victory when visiting Brighton at Amex Stadium on Wednesday, as they moved up to 6th place in the standings. Cole Palmer and Cristopher Nkunku scored the goals in the 34th and 64th minutes. With two minutes remaining on the clock Reece James was sent off with a straight red card, giving a glimmer of hope to Brighton and their supporters. The Seagulls reacted, but managed to score only a consolation goal through Danny Welbeck in the 97th minute.

In the other Premier League Wednesday match, Manchester United returned to winning ways with a thrilling 3:2 victory over Newcastle. Kobbie Mainoo, Amad Diallo, and Rasmus Hojlund got on their names on the scoresheet for the Red Devils, with all of them being 21 years old or younger. The Magpies responded through Anthony Gordon and Lewis Hall but were unable not leave Old Trafford with a precious point. Now, Manchester United and Newcastle are on equal 57 points, occupying 7th and 8th positions in the standings, trailing Chelsea by 3.
