Raphael Varane announces his departure from Manchester United at the end of the season

The World Cup winning central defender Raphael Varane has announced his departure from Old Trafford at the end of the current 2023/24 campaign. The 31 year old French player joined the Red Devils from Real Madrid in the summer of 2021 for a 40 million fee. During his time in Manchester, Varane has represented United in 93 matches across all tournaments, scoring 2 goals and providing 1 assist. For the 3 full seasons in England, the defender has managed to win only the League Cup in 2023.

Varane will not feature in the upcoming Euro 2024 for France, as he retired from the national team in 2023 at the age of 29. Whatever team manages to convince Varane to sign a contract, they will be getting one of the most experienced players in modern football. The Frenchman has won 4 Champions League titles and 3 LaLiga crowns among many other trophies with Real Madrid. He has also featured in 2 World Cup finals with France, winning in 2018, and losing in 2022.
