Muniain has represented the Spanish national team just 2 times, making his debut in 2012. This season he is not among the first-choice options for manager Ernesto Valverde and has featured in 22 games in all competitions. Muniain has started from the 1st minute in only 7, and has entered as a sub on another 15 occasions. Prior to this season the forward had won 2 Spanish Super Cups, but his greatest moment in Athletic shirt came earlier this month, when Muniain led Bilbao with the captain’s armbrand to their first Spanish Cup trophy in 40 years.
