Bayer Leverkusen’s undefeated streak was extended to 45 matches in all competitions after the team finished in a 1:1 draw in its visit to Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga on Sunday. Xabi Alonso’s players were 1:0 down until deep into injury time, when Josip Stanisic jumped highest to head a Florian Wirtz corner kick into the net, cancelling out Niclas Fullkrug’s 81st minute strike. That marked the 6th time this season when Bayer Leverkusen have managed to avoid a defeat by scoring in the 90th minute or later.

Bayer were crowned Bundesliga champions last weekend and have nothing but their pride to play for in the league, but with the Sunday draw Borussia Dortmund remains 5th in the standings, 2 points adrift of RB Leipzig. Xabi Alonso’s players are still in the fight for two other trophies – DFB Pokal, where they will meet Kaiserslautern in the final in late May, and Europa League, where Roma awaits the German team at the semi-finals.
