Arsenal bid farewell to the Champions League after 1:0 defeat in Munich

Arsenal have been eliminated from the UEFA Champions League knockout stage by Bayern Munich for fifth time in history after losing 1:0 last night. The Gunners began more actively at Allianz Arena, with Munuel Neuer having to make three crucial saves in the 1st half to ensure that both teams go for the break with the score unchanged. Bayern Munich’s players returned to the field more determined than their opponents and it resulted in Joshua Kimmich scoring the only goal of the game in the 63rd minute with a bullet header from inside the box. Arsenal’s young team seemed to have no plan how to find a way back into the tie and had just 2 attempts on goal during the 2nd period, failing to register a single shot on target.

Bayern’s last appearance in a Champions League semi-final was in 2020, when they went on to lift the trophy, defeating PSG in the final. Now, they will face Real Madrid in the round of last-4 with the 1st leg scheduled for 30th of April at Allianz Arena in Munich. Both sides have plenty of history, as Los Blancos have eliminated the Bavarian giants six times, the most any team has ousted a single opponent in the competition’s knockout stages.
