Jurgen Klopp was clearly unhappy in the press-conference after Liverpool lost two points to Manchester United after finishing in 2:2 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday. As a result Liverpool lost the leading position in the standings, dropping down to 2nd position behind Arsenal.
Liverpool dominated the first half, which ended 0:1, after Luis Diaz opened the scoring on 23 minutes. The Red Devils quickly responded after the break with a Bruno Fernandes’ strike in the 50th minute, and then took the lead with a spectacular strike from Kobe Mainoo in the 67th minute. Mohamed Salah had the final word in the match, equalizing from the penalty spot in the 84 minute for the final score of 2:2.
Commenting on the last two meetings with the Red Devils, including the 4:3 defeat in FA Cup 3 weeks ago, Klopp highlighted his team’s dominance that unfortunately did not transform into victories. “For all the time I was the coach here at Liverpool, I don’t think we dominated United like we did in these two games. But unfortunately, we didn’t get the results we wanted” Klopp told reporters after the match.

With the Premier League title race heating up, Klopp also touched on Arsenal’s chances against Manchester United, claiming Arsenal will be victorious if United do not improve. “Arsenal is a good football team. If Man United play like they did today, Arsenal will win the game. I am 100% sure of that.” Klopp stated.
The Premier League standings is tightly contested at the top, with Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City all within a point of each other. The race is far from over, with seven games remaining of the 2023/24 campaign. Liverpool’s focus, however, now have to shift to the Europa League, where the Reds are set to meet Atalanta on Thursday in the first leg of their quarter-final battle at Anfield.
