Xabi Alonso has announced today that his short term future belongs to Bayer Leverkusen. The Spanish tactitian was strongly linked with the managerial positions at Liverpool and Bayern Munich but stated: “I’m grateful to Bayer and the board, the players, the fans … I feel that this is the best way, to continue together”.

Alonso disclosed that he had personally informed the players of his decision, demonstrating the significance of open communication and mutual respect within the team. The Spaniard remains dedicated to Bayer Leverkusen’s cause. “My job at Bayer is not over. I want to help the club, help the players to develop, the board is great, it’s all fantastic here”.
Alonso announced his decision to remain at Bayer Leverkusen following a week of consideration during the international break. “I’m still young coach but I think this is the best decision for my future. I took my time and I’m sure about that”.
Alonso’s commitment to Bayer Leverkusen comes as a boost for the club and its supporters. With Bayer Leverkusen on top of the the Bundesliga by a comfortable 10 point over Bayern Munich, Alonso’s leadership will be instrumental as the team is on the hunt for their first-ever German title.
