Chelsea’s aspirations for the remainder of the Premier League campaign have suffered another blow. The club has confirmed that Romeo Lavia will miss the rest of the season due to injury. The news comes as a disappointment for fans and the team, with Lavia’s absence leaving a void in the middle of the field.

Since joining the Blues in August 2023, Lavia has managed to accumulate just 32 minutes of playing time. His only appearance came in a 2:1 win over Crystal Palace on 27th December 2023, when entering the field as a substitute. The 20 year old Belgian midfielder was brought to Stamford Brigde from Southampton in a high-profile €62.1 million deal last summer. The youngster’s impact in the Premier League during his time with the Saints was impressive, as he topped multiple statistical categories among players aged 21 and under. Lavia led the charts for most tackles, interceptions, and shots blocked
With Lavia sidelined once again, Chelsea now has to rely on other options for the middle of the park. The midfielder had slim hopes of making Belgium’s squad for the upcoming Euro 2024, but now he has to fully focus on the recovery process in order to be ready and enjoy a full-fledged pre-season with Chelsea’s squad.
