Joao Cancelo: Manchester City were unfair. I want to stay at Barca and win titles

João Cancelo recently shared his thoughts about staying with Barcelona for the next campaign. The 29 year old Portuguese right-back is currently on a season long loan deal at Barcelona from Manchester City and made his feelings for the future clear. He told A Bola: “I really want to stay at Barça next season to win titles. That’s what I want.”

He also touched on rumours from his time at Manchester City, saying, “There were false stories about me at City. I was always a good teammate.”

Cancelo shared a personal story to portray his disappointment towards the club: “I was robbed and attacked at my house once, and the very next day, I played a game against Arsenal. It’s something you can’t forget. I had to leave my wife and daughter at home, even though they were still scared and in shock, to play for City.”

He feels City was unfair in how they spoke about him after he left. “I played a big role at City, and it wasn’t right for them to talk about me like that” he mentioned.

Cancelo also talked about his relationship with the team and Pep Guardiola, “I’ve never thought I was better than any teammate. It’s just the manager’s opinion. But when Guardiola says something, people listen because he’s more influential. I just focus on being honest. I’ve never lied” the Portuguese defender explained.
