Former president of Spanish football Luis Rubiales seeks Dominican nationality after latest scandal

The Spanish authorities have issued an arrest warrant for the former President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Luis Rubiales. The move comes after an investigation that saw multiple arrests within the federation yesterday. Six individuals close to the federation have been arrested.

The investigation got more intense when the Civil Guard searched Rubiales’ house in Granada two days ago as part of the proceedings. Luis Rubiales stepped down from his position at the helm of the RFEF, because of another scandal, including a public outcry after he kissed Jenni Hermoso of Spain’s female national team without her consent. His tenure was marked by controversies that have now culminated in legal actions.

The latest updates indicate Rubiales is located in the Dominican Republic and has been trying to acquire Dominican nationality.

As the investigation goes on, the football community in Spain is getting ready for the potential revelations that could impact the sport in the country in a negative way.
