Bayer Leverkusen set new record for German teams after going 33 games unbeaten

Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen have set an all-time unbeaten German record after going 33 consecutive games in all competitions without a defeat. They have achieved this after winning their latest Bundesliga match 2:1 over Mainz. The team’s incredible run began immediately after losing 1:2 at home to FC Koln on 5th of May. Throughout this record streak, Xabi Alonso’s players have recorded a total of 29 victories and 4 draws.

An interesting observation emerges when looking at Bayer Leverkusen’s upcoming schedule: their next match is against FC Koln, the very same team to which they last suffered a defeat. For the period of the next 30 days, Leverkusen faces relatively easy fixtures, at least on paper. Alongside the game with FC Koln, they are set to encounter Qarabag twice in the Europa League, and take on rivals Wolfsburg, Freiburg, and Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.
