Feyenoord aims for redemption in Europa League’s showdown against Roma

Feyenoord will face Roma in the 1st leg of their play-off battle in the Europa League on Thursday at De Kuip Stadium in Rotterdam. Both sides have a rich history in recent seasons, as they clashed in the Europa Conference League final in 2022, which Roma won via a slender 1:0 score. A year later, Roma and Feyenoord met again, this time at the quarter-finals stage in the Europa League. Once more, it was the Italian team that prevailed, after a 1:0 loss in the Netherlands and a 4:1 win after extra-time in Rome.

The Dutch side is currently unbeaten in seven competitive matches, recording 5 wins and 2 draws in the process and has not conceded a goal in any of the last 5 outings. On the other hand, the Italian club sacked Jose Mourinho in mid-January and replaced him with former player Daniele De Rossi, who began his Roma tenure with four straight wins but suffered a 2:4 loss to league leaders Inter last Saturday. Feyenoord played in the Champions League but finished the group stage in 3rd position and were demoted to the play-offs in the Europa League, while Roma finished 2nd in their Europa League group.
