Take Kubo extends his contract with Real Sociedad to 2029

Japanese footballer Takefusa Kubo has put pen to paper on a new deal with Real Sociedad, extending his current deal to 2029. Kubo took part in two matches for his club after returning from the Asian Cup but has failed to help Real Sociedad, with the team unable to score a single goal in those games. Take Kubo has featured in 19 LaLiga matches this season, having scored six goals and provided three assists. He joined Real Sociedad in the summer of 2022 from Real Madrid in a €6.5 million deal.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has played only in Spain after moving to Europe at the tender age of 10. Initially, he joined La Masia – the famous Barcelona youth system, but after four years, Kubo returned to his homeland to start his professional path with FC Tokyo. Take Kubo holds the records for the youngest player to appear in the J-League, being just 15 years, 5 months, and 1 day at his debut and also for the youngest goalscorer at 15 years, 10 months, and 11 days.

It was Real Madrid who came calling in the summer of 2019, and Kubo again left for Spain, this time joining Barcelona’s arch-rivals. Unfortunately for him, the Japanese player had never managed to establish himself in Los Blancos’ first team, and during his 3-year spell with Real, Kubo was sent on loan to Mallorca, Villarreal, Getafe, and again Mallorca. In the summer of 2022, Real Sociedad showed faith and invested in the young attacker who had a market value of just €9 million at the time. After 71 games with a return of 15 goals and 13 assists in all tournaments with the team, Take Kubo has reached a market value of €60 million according to Transfermarkt, and Real Sociedad were quick to offer a new deal, knowing that big clubs around Europe were closely monitoring his situation.
