Borussia Dortmund on the receiving end of the two most profitable transfers for the past decade

The German club Borussia Dortmund comes on top in an interesting research conducted by CIES. The football observatory based in Switzerland looked at the 10 most profitable transfers for non-academy players between 2014 and 2023 and the names of two former Borussia footballers emerge on top. French winger Ousmane Dembele is the player who has generated the biggest net income with a single transfer, with BVB receiving from Barcelona 117 million on top of what they invested for Dembele.

Jude Bellingham who is taking the football world by storm during his first months with Real Madrid is in 2nd place according to CIES. The 20 year-old English midfield maestro has brought 101 million in BVB’s bank account with his move to the Spanish capital last summer.

Beside Borussia Dortmund, only the Premier League side Brighton has managed to register a triple-digit profit from a single sale. It is thanks to the transfer of Moses Caicedo to Chelsea in August of 2023.
Monaco also features with 2 players among the top 10. They have made significant financial gains from the sales of Aurelien Tchouameni to Real Madrid and Thomas Lemar to Atletico Madrid.
