Real Madrid and their cross-town rivals, Atletico Madrid, are set to meet in a semi-final clash in the Spanish Super Cup on Wednesday. Last night, the draw for the next round of the Copa del Rey took place, and in an interesting turn of events, the two Madrid teams were paired in the 1/8 finals of the tournament. This meeting is scheduled to take place next Thursday, on January 18th.

There will be three Madrid derbies in less than a month. Tomorrow’s Super Cup match will be followed by the Copa meeting, while in the beginning of February, Carlo Ancelotti’s and Diego Simeone’s teams will face each other once again, this time in their last LaLiga encounter of the season.
One intriguing fact about the last 10 head-to-head clashes between Real and Atletico is that only one was won by the visiting side, while the hosting team emerged victorious on five occasions.
