Seattle Mariners at Houston Astros Preview, Tips and Odds

The year has not been kind to Seattle, not that we expected anything different. Despite having a number of seasons with 85-90 wins over the past decade, they have never been able to qualify for the postseason. Their drought looks like it will get another year tacked on to it, as they are currently 11 games under .500 and off the playoff track. Time will tell if they can even get back to .500 this year.

Houston, on the other hand, is 18 games over .500 and will have three starters in the All-Star Game, proving that their record is thanks to talent across the board. Injuries have taken their toll on this team, but as you can see, those have not slowed them down in the slightest. Winning is all Houston sports teams seem to know how to do these days, the Astros not an exception to this rule. They’ll look to keep it going in this weekend series.

Mariners at Astros stats

Mariners: As the injuries have piled up, the M’s have actually been playing some decent baseball of late and will be looking to keep it rolling. The active HR leader on the team is Daniel Vogelbach with 19, with Domingo Santana and his 17 HRs and 60 RBI right behind him. There are plenty of players on this team who can mash, but they don’t have many players who can hit for a solid batting average. Marco Gonzales has been able to go out and win them games when they need them, as he’s gone 9-6 so far. Felix Hernandez has continued to stack up losses and poor quality starts, as he’s sitting on the injured list now.

Astros: They are finally starting to get healthy, and all they are missing now is Carlos Correa. Three different players got in as All-Star starters for Houston, and Jose Altuve was not even among them. Big congrats to Alex Bregman (22 HRs, 52 RBI, .264 BA), Michael Brantley (11 HRs, 43 RBI, .316 BA) and George Springer (18 HRs, 44 RBI, .315 BA in 51 games). All of them are deserving as they have played great baseball to help put Houston in the position they are in. They also have two pitchers on pace for over 275 strikeouts in Gerrit Cole and Justin Verlander, who have continued to dominate every batter they face.

Mariners at Astros H2H

These teams have played seven games against one another so far this year, and the Astros have won six of them. In 2018, Seattle won the season series 10-9, while Houston took 14 of 19 from the Mariners in 2017.
